WATERLOO HOSTS NEEDED FOR RAGBRAI® RIDERS

The Waterloo RAGBRAI® Housing Committee is seeking Waterloo residents living south of Ridgeway Avenue to house RAGBRAI® riders overnight the evening of Thursday, July 29.  Interested parties should contact Housing@WaterlooRAGBRAI.com. RAGBRAI® Fast Facts

•           Participants come from all 50 states and many foreign countries

•           Started in 1973 as a six day ride across the state by two Des Moines Register columnists

•           Averages 472 miles per year on the ride

•           They have visited 780 Iowa towns in their 37 year existence and all 99 counties

•           It is estimated that there will be 15,000 – 20,000 riders on RAGBRAI XXXVIII.

Empty Bowls

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Tuesday, April 20th will mark the third bi-annual Empty Bowls event for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Join us for a modest meal of soup and bread beginning at 5:30 p.m. A Silent Auction will also begin at 5:30 p.m. and a Live Auction will start at 6:15 p.m. The event will take place at the UAW Hall in Waterloo.

Tickets for the event are just $20 and all dollars raised will go to support the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. With the purchase of a ticket, participants will also receive a handcrafted bowl as a symbol of hunger in our area.

2010 Feinstein Foundation Challenge

March and April

The Feinstein Foundation’s $1 Million Challenge is finally
here. Be sure to get involved before April 30th to see your donations go even further to helping hungry individuals in Northeast Iowa.

Every year, Mr. Feinstein donates up to $1 million to hunger fighting agencies across the nation. Now through April 30th, all donations made to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank will be proportionately matched by the Alan Feinstein Foundation.

Juvenile Diabetes

The research community feels we could find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes with in our lifetime.  Still many children find themselves with a disease that there is no known cause, no prevention and no known cure.  Treatment is life-long, painful, tedious and time consuming.

Agape Flights to Haiti

Agape Flights is an independent Christian organization dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus by serving and supporting missionaries committed to fighting poverty, disease, and illiteracy.

Agape Flights accomplishes this by flying much needed supplies to missionaries in remote areas at no cost to the missionary.

As you can imagine,  Agape Flights has changed their plans drastically in light of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.  Now they are flying in medical supplies to these missionaries and the communities they serve.
