Anything But Brussels Sprouts

I really don’t like brussels sprouts, okay more like I hate them.  They taste just as bad as they smell.  My mom attempted to feed them to me on various occasion with no success.  Fortunately for brussels sprouts, they are great little soldiers in the prevention of certain types of cancer, because they’re high in Vitamin B.

I still don’t think I could eat them.  So if you know away that makes brussels sprouts edible, I might try them.

Jeanie suggested that I fry them in bacon grease then add the cooked bacon with mashed croutons and I could be enjoying a family favorite that even the kids enjoy.  Bacon smells so good they should make candles out of the stuff and it should be strong enough to get rid of the brussels sprouts smell.  Still I don’t know how health it would be but I think it’s worth trying.  At the very least we could cut back over time the amount of bacon.

Kevin likes his brussels sprouts a little simpler with melted butter and a little lemon juice.

There are many ways to fight cancer but the food we put in our bodies is having the greatest impact.  I’m going to try brussels sprouts sooner or later.  Later, probably, so until then I’ll stick to asparagus and orange juice.  Not together though, that would be gross.

Salmon Mustard Dill Sauce

My six year old loved this over her salmon; she must have adult taste buds. :)

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup mayo

3tbs minced fresh parsley

3tbs minced fresh dill weed

2tbs dijon mustard

2tsp lemon juice

Mix all ingredients and then chill in the refrigerator for at least three hours.  Serve over grilled or broiled salmon.  You might just feel like your in a fancy restaurant.

Believe it or not, this is actually true!  However, there is one simple item to remember.  What kind of snack you eat can either help you a lot…or hurt you a lot depending on what you eat.

Philly Cheesesteak

When you make a cheese steak at home you don’t have to worry about wit, wit out, whiz, or whatever.  Here is the best recipe for making real Philly cheese steaks at home.  Hy-vee has frozen boxes of meat sheets (yum) or you can get the meat counter to slice rib-eye in deli fashion.  Fry up the meat on a griddle or in a skillet.  Now I have yet to find cheese wiz the way it is in Pat’s, Geno’s or Jim’s (all Philly steak shops).  Velveeta has the same consistence as cheese wiz and should work as a good substitute.  Melt that down.  Find a great sandwich roll, somewhere between a brat roll and a french baguette.  Put steak on bread, generously smear melted cheese all over.  Variations include fried onions, and/or peppers.  I like lettuce and tomato.  My husband likes mayo (gross)!  You can also use an type of cheese.
