Dealing with Difficult Family Issues

Marriage is a lot of work.  Sometimes I find it difficult, so much so, I quit working at it.  Resentment builds and life at home stinks.  No one has a perfect marriage and everyone goes through rough times.  Those times are meant to strengthen us not tear us apart, but additional help to get through them could make a huge difference.

Keys to Living helps with not only marital problems but also other personal issues you or your family may be facing.  They have locations in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Iowa City.  Their phone number is 319 377-2161.

Tour De Revs

Three Reverend Riders, 100 days, 13,000 miles, 65 cities, one mission….fight world hunger.  Rev. Fred Soltow, Rev. David Twedt, and Rev. Ron Schlak will ride through Eastern Iowa with stops in Postville, Waverly, and Iowa City.

The goal of the Tour de Revs is to encourage contributions to support ELCA World Hunger activities. They  are seeking funds from individuals, congregations, and Synods to support the ELCA in meeting the $25 Million annual goal set in 1999. Along the way, the Team will also encourage folks to set personal health and wellness goals.

The trio will visit camp Noah in Postville at noon today (August 5).  At 3:00 p.m., the pastors will arrive in Plainfield and then bike to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly.

Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Youth Organization will sponsor a family event at 5:00 p.m., featuring volleyball, an inflatable jumping house, games, and a dunk tank!  Hot dogs, chips, and smores will also be available until 6:00 p.m.

Thursday morning the pastors will eat breakfast in Parkersburg before heading off to Iowa City.

Ladies, Who’s Your Hero?

We all love heroes.  Not because they are perfect.  But because of their strength…their faith in God to make decisions that honor Him.  So today we ask you, ladies…What woman of the Bible do you most admire and want to emulate?  Why?  Or guys…What woman of the Bible does your wife, mom, or sister emulate and why?  Here are a few we came up with…who is yours?

Like Deborah, I will serve the Lord in power and speak His word without fear.

Like Esther, I will stand up for God’s people, even when it may be detrimental to me.

Like Hannah, I will dedicate my children to the Lord.

Like Abigail, I will humble myself to serve others who are following after Jesus.

Like the Shulamite widow, I will trust God in the day of adversity.

Like Priscilla, I will explain the way of God to those who are seeking.

Like Tabitha (Dorcas), I will do good and help the poor.

Like Lydia, I will be a worshiper of God and open my home to His ministers.

Like Joanna, I will use my wealth to support the ministry of Jesus.

Like Rahab, I will put the safety of others above my own.

Like Ruth, I will leave my earthly roots to follow after the path God has for me.

Like the Woman at the well.  I will use my sin as a testimony to God’s grace in Christ not to destroy my confidence.

North Cedar Remembrance

Last Spring the historic flood of 2008 damaged more than 200 North Cedar Homes.   North Cedar Elementary School served as a staging area for relief efforts with clothes, food, and other items available for those who lost almost everything in the flood.

This Spring, however, North Cedar Elementary School will play host to an evening of remembrance with more flood relief information, music, and food.

The North Cedar Remembrance Service is Scheduled for June 24 from 5:00-8:00pm.

Our thanks to Cedar Falls councilman Tom Hagarty for stopping by the morning show to share about the upcoming evening and how we can help.

Anyone wanting more information or wishing to sponsor the event can call Hagarty at (319) 266-1321.   Find out more by checking out our conversation below.
