Money Saving Vacation Tips

Many of us have been hit hard financially this past year.  It’s at this time that we need some physical and mental restoration.  How can we get some time away without breaking the bank?

Here are some of the best of the best from today’s show.  Thank you to all who participated!

–Calculate your spending power before you decide where you want to go.  This avoids getting the cart before the horse.  Find out what you have before you get your heart set on something you cannot afford.

–Have Fun Here in Iowa.  Turn a tent in the backyard or a trip to Adventureland into a fun family vacation.  Turn off the phone, sleep in, and do all the fun things in town you normally don’t get to do.

–Go Together.  Vacationing with another family can save on food, lodging, and transportation.  Especially good for single parent families.

–Book a hotel with breakfast included…then take pb&j for an inexpensive lunch.

–Check on condos.  Sometimes you can find condos for the same price as a hotel…but you get a full kitchen so instead of eating out each day…save money by cooking more affordable meals in your condo.

–Go online.  So many great deals are found by simply taking a moment to search for vacation ideas and coupons.

–Ask about specials.  Many places have special discounts and other specials…the trick is taking a moment to ask for the best deal.

Impact One Child At A Time

In 2008, more than 290 children entered foster care in Black Hawk and surrounding counties. Just 95 foster families were available. The number of children entering the system in crisis continues to increase at an alarming rate.
However, right now… No homes open in Black Hawk county at this time.  Which means that that our local agencies have no home with which to place these children.

Today, we’re here to change that.  This weekend Heartland Vineyard Church in Cedar Falls along with Five Black Hawk County agencies are getting together  for Impact…to focus on this need and give us the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life….

The Impact One Child At A Time event taking place this weekend will be an opportunity to for us to find information on how we can mentor, foster or even adopt children in our community who need loving support.

For more information on Impact One Child At A Time call 319-266-HOPE or visit their website.

Our thanks to Angela Donaldson for joining us on the morning show.   Please pass this interview along to anyone you know who might be interested in helping us place foster children in good homes.
