Julia and I were talking on the morning about how to spend and save money smartly when the idea of making your own laundry soap came up. Being very intrigued by the concept I did some investigation and as it turns out lots of folks make their own laudry soap to the tune of 1 – 3 cents per load of laundry. WOW! So if you’re interested in a simple recipe, here’s what I have…
1 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax
1 bar soap
Approximately 3 gallons water
You’ll also need a pot to boil water, a spoon, and a five gallon bucket (w/lid) for storing your soap.
Start by boiling 4 cups of water.
Grate 1 bar of soap and slowly add to the boiling water. Stir until dissolved.
Next, add three gallons of water to your 5 gallon bucket. Then add your washing soda, borax, and the soap you boiled.
Let it set for 24 hours.
When you return you’ll find a very unique solution of watery, maybe lumpy, gel. Give it a little stir and use one cup of detergent per load. Let me know what you think!
