On today’s friend for Life Crystal Sloover has nominated her best friend Ashley Schrock from Hampton.  Crystal writes here that Ashley is her friend for life because she is by her side to laugh, cry, or listen when she needs it.

The “jobs” of a husband…

We always hear about how a wife/mother has so many jobs, chauffer, chief, referee, daily planner, etc.  Often little recognized is the many jobs of our husbands.  What is one of your husbands’ unnoticed jobs?  What would do without him?

I appreciate my husband and the many jobs he has to help me make sound decisions:

Safety inspector                                  “How can you walk in those shoes!?”

Fashion Consultant and Stylist           “Are you going like that?”

Self-sacrificing dietitian                      “Are you going to finish that?”

Gossip Columnist                                “My wife can’t get ready in less than an hour!”

Personal Trainer                                  “You are going to work out tonight right?”

Spiritual Advisor/Leader                    “we should pray about this”

Business Manager/Accountant           “you spent how much?”

Best Friend                                         “let’s go do something fun”

Interrogation Expert                           “what did you do that for?”

Psychic Advisor                                  “I told you so” Everytime I hear this one I realize I should have listened to my initial reading.

Counselor/Therapist                            “do you need to talk about it?”

Cedar Rapids Police Officers

Since January 1 there have been 22 assults on our local Cedar Rapids police officers.  That’s opposed to 30 assults for the entire year of 2008.

So here at Life 101.9 we asked ourselves what we could we do to lift up and encourage our local officers.  That’s why we decided to take the morning show on the road today…so that as as community we could together take time to encourage our men and women who serve and protect us everyday.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Starbucks to sign the card.  It was delivered to the Cedar Rapids Police Department where it will stay to encourage our local officers this week.  Thank you also for praying for our local law enforcement.  They appreciate it more than we know.

Mother’s Day Winner

For the last couple of weeks we’ve given you the opportunity to honor your mom by sharing her story.  It’s been a joy to be able read and share those stories on the air:)  Thank you to everyone who shared your story and participated in our contest!

Congratulations to Carolyn Benda from Toledo…our Mother’s Day Grand Prize Winner.  Carolyn was nominated by her children Jacob, Lauren, Joshua, and Rachel (and maybe some help from dad?).

They wrote:   “Our mom has blessed us in so many ways.  One of the ways is home schooling us.  She sacrifices her day to help us get the education we need.  Our mom is a super hero!”

We had the joy of surprising Carolyn with a phone call on the morning show.  If you missed it, you’ve got to check it out…
