Weekend of Food!

This weekend my wife is getting together with some of her friends to put together “freezer meals”.  Basically, they plan on assembling, cooking, and freezing a large number of meals for later.  This is cool for two reasons.  First, it means we have meals on hand that are easy for even me to make at home.  Second, since our family is doing it with other families, we can all save money by purchasing supplies in bulk, which is really cool.

Do you have anything you’re doing for this fall, maybe even with other families, to save money?

MJ and How Music Affects Us

I saw some of Michael Jackson’s funeral on TV while I was home for lunch today.  It was kind of surreal seeing so many people in one place for a funeral.  I think it’s safe to say that most of the people didn’t know Michael Jackson personally, but instead they were touched in one way or another by his music.  And I think that’s a demonstration of how much of a difference music makes in our lives.  When I’m encountering a tough day, at times it can be a particular song or album that helps me get through.  That’s why I love radio: the music.  And I hope that today with funerals on tv and clouds in the sky overhead, the music I play this afternoon will be an encouragement to you.

Test the new Office and Get it Free!

Computers are a definite part of our lives.  We use them at home all the time.  You might have to put together a paper (or your kids do for school), assemble a schedule for the week, or maybe you work from home on your computer.  And all that takes software that costs money.  One way you could save money is through some free software.  Microsoft is offering just that  with Office 2010.  They’re looking for people who are willing to do some intensive testing of the new Office before it hits store shelves.  If you’re willing to be one of their testers and try out of the new version of Office on a “loaner laptop”, when the test is all done, you’ll get a free copy of the new Office.  If you want to look into joining the program, check it out here.
