Crazy Stuff

Book a day?

Imagine a peaceful relaxing day.  That’s probably about as good as it gets most days, right? Imagining.  On a typical day we run around, running errands, going to work, picking up and dropping off kids for school and practice, making dinner, cleaning the house and feeling tired.  But at the same time, I wonder if we have more free time than we think we do.  One woman decided to take advantage of her free time and read a book a day for year. She’s on day 350.  Now, I’ll admit that she has some advantages like being well off and not having a full time job, but she says she still finds time to read as she waits to pick up the kids, in between chores, or even at night before bed.  I know that I’ve wished lately that I could read more.  Maybe I just need to make the time.

30 days

Recently, I’ve seen a lot of articles and series on improving something over 30 or so days.  “31 Days to a Better Blog” or “30 Days to a Better Man” are a few that I’ve seen.  And it got me thinking about what I could do for 30 days.  So I decided I would embark on a personal challenge: “30 days to being a better husband.”  The challenge I laid out for myself was this: for 30 days, I was going to serve my wife and try to be a better husband by doing something different and special for her each day.  I chronicled each day of the project in a blog online.  Yesterday was the last day of my experiment, so this morning, I emailed the link for the blog to my wife, to let her know what I’d been secretly working on for the last month.  It was definitely a challenge, but it was also fun and an chance to learn more about my wife, and myself.

So now, I’m going to throw down the gauntlet and challenge you.  Set aside 30 days and come up with something special to do for him or her each day.  And then, if you want, let me know how it goes.

Most Annoying Words

No matter who you are, you’ve got a list of things that drive you nuts. Some call them pet peeves. And some of the worst are the words or phrases you just can’t stand. When someone uses those words or phrases in conversation continually, you want to run away and talk to someone else. They did another survey this year to determine what, overall, are the most annoying words and phrases. The answer this year? ‘Whatever.’ So which words or phrases drive you nuts?

Hotmail accounts hacked

Over the weekend, someone posted the usernames and passwords of a few thousand Hotmail accounts online. They were listed alphabetically and went from a-b.  This could be a potential sign that more accounts have been hacked and will be listed soon.  If you use Hotmail, you’ll want to protect your account soon.  The best way to do that right now is to simply change your password.  In fact, changing your password regularly is one of the best ways to keep your account secure.

Halloween Shopping?

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been out shopping in a while.  Which is odd.  Usually my wife Amy has me run out for something here and there.  All this to say that while I can’t confirm it with my own eyes, the rumor is that Halloween decorations are out already, which means the Christmas decorations should be on shelves in around 2 weeks right?  In all seriousness, it seems more ridiculous to me every year how early all the holiday decorations go on sale.  The holidays don’t seem as fun if the decorations have been up for 4 months.  What do you think?  If it was up to you, when would holiday items go on sale?
