From Motivation to Action

We all have items on our to-do lists that we lack motivation for.  Yes, I’d like my desk to be cleaner, but I don’t really want to clean it.  However, there are other times where motivation isn’t the difficult part.  Take my weekend for instance.  For a while now, I’ve thought that it would be better for me to work out more and get in shape.  But I was crummy about biking and working out this year.  Then, on TV this weekend, I saw part of the coverage for the Iron Man competition.  If you’ve never heard of it, the Iron Man competition involves an over two-mile swim, followed by a 120 mile bike ride, followed by a marathon…all in one day.  I watched incredibly fit men and women cross the finish line and thought to myself, “I wish I could do that.”  Now, I doubt I’ll ever compete in an Iron Man, but at that point I was motivated to work out.  I wanted to be more fit.  Now, I just have to figure out the action to take.  And sometimes, that can be the hardest part.
