Keep that Collection

I’ve been on an organization fix recently and that led me to clean off and reorganize my desk at home.  Part of that cleaning process meant that it was time to remove some of the items off my desk like old pictures or little pieces of memorabilia.  However, there was one thing I couldn’t put in storage: my collection of gnomes.  I have quite a few different little gnome figurines that I’ve collected as gifts and from around the world, and they had to stay on my desk.  I can’t box them.  Now it’s your turn, what’s the one collection that no matter what you clean and reorganize, absolutely cannot go back into the attic?

Look at the Moon

The increasingly ill-named Google Earth has added another update recently.  Now, using the free program from Google, you can look at the moon. Google has collected hi-res photos of the moon to piece together an impressive picture of the moon you can zoom in and out of.  You can even enable icons that allow to track different locations on the moon, like where the separate moon landings took place.  The first I thought of when I heard you could do that was, “Wow, this could make a really fun learning tool to explore with your kids.”  You can check it out here.

Don’t touch that spam

We need to have a talk.  As long as there is mail of some sort, there will also be junkmail.  In the world of email, it’s called spam.  In today’s society, that’s pretty common knowledge.  I’ve tried to help you out by letting you know about different types of spam and email trickery to steal your information.  The problem is that some are still falling for it.  In fact, 1 in 6 people actually respond in some way to spam, by opening it and clicking on the links inside. Please tell me this isn’t you.  If it is, let me remind you again that no matter how nice that elderly woman from a foreign country sounds (and she probably doesn’t sound too great since her grammar is terrible) she is not real.  And she most definitely does not have $15 million for your church.

Where’s the summer relaxation?

Whatever happened to the summer?  I seem to remember that as a young child, the summer was the greatest time ever.  You didn’t have to go to school and you could stay up late, go to the pool, hang out with your friends and do a lot of nothing.  At some point that went away.  Now instead of being relaxing, the summer feels like another one of the busiest parts of the year.  Do you ever feel that way?  I thought the winter holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas were supposed to feel busy and somewhat stressful sometimes, but now it seems like I’m just racing from one busy season to another.

On the road again

It’s July in Iowa which means it’s time for another RAGBRAI.  RAGBRAI stands for the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa.  I’ve always thought RAGBRAI would be a great way to see Iowa.  I’ve just never done it.  There really aren’t that many reasons for that except my lack of dedication to riding bike this year.  When it comes down to it, I’m just glad that RAGBRAI changes which part of Iowa it goes through every year.  It’s a lot easier to not feel guilty when it doesn’t go through your town ever year.
