Census Scams

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something cool about the Census.  It’s always fun to know exactly how many people live in a given area or in the whole U.S.  As the Census kicks off next year volunteers with the Census Bureau will be stopping by to ask questions.  I had one stop by at my house the other day to confirm my address.  But it’s important to be careful with the info you give to the Census Bureau, or rather those who claim to be from the Census Bureau.  It turns out some people have been claiming to be a volunteer but instead ask questions about bank accounts and social security numbers, info they want to steal and use for themselves. They’re not from the government at all.  So if someone does stop by asking for the info, feel free to turn them away.

Friend for Life

Mary had a friend in Lorrenne before she even knew it.

Feeling bad about being good

Have you ever done something to help someone out, and then felt bad about it afterward?  Take last night at my house for example.  I got home to an unhappy house.  Bekah was fussy, the dog was misbehaving, and Amy was tired and frustrated from her day, a toothache, and Bekah having not taken a nap.  So I gave her the night off, and sent her out with her book to enjoy a free concert in the park with the Municipal Band while I stayed home with Bekah.  She was kind of fussy, so eventually we went downstairs and flipped on the TV.  Not 15 minutes later, Bekah leaned against me and fell asleep.  So while I felt great that I could help Amy out, I almost didn’t want to tell her my evening wasn’t that hard when she got home.

Don’t snitch the cookie dough

I love making cookies;  the reason I love making cookies is that I can snitch the cookie dough.  Sometimes, we’ll even freeze some so I can eat it later.  But you won’t want to do that with some Nestle Toll House cookie doughs.  Apparently there have been reports of people getting sick from eating the cookie dough raw.  You can find a full list of those recalled cookie doughs online here.

Text Message Scam

I’ll admit it: while I love new technology, I have yet to jump on the text message bandwagon.  Mainly it comes from me being too cheap to pay for it.  But if you’re getting used to sending and receiving texts, you’ll want to watch out for the latest scam.  Some people have received a text message informing them that their Visa credit card account has been closed due to strange activity. When you call the number with the text, you get asked for your account number and PIN.  Then you’re thanked and hung up on.  Yep, it’s a scam.  Feel free to just delete that one.  Now if we could just figure out a way to not get charged by the cell phone companies for receiving a scam text…
