Time for a break

There are some fun things to watch on TV.  Some shows provide some great relaxation in the evening.  But do you ever get that feeling that all anyone does is watch tv?  Maybe you wish for more time talking or playing games, but each night the TV goes on and everyone else goes quiet.  Now that Dancing with the Stars and American Idol have wrapped, I think we can pretty much say the Spring TV Season is over.  Which is your perfect opportunity.  Before the summer shows start, and everyone gets sucked in, take the chance to turn it off.  You can use the spare time to get everyone out of the house to the park for the evening.  Or start a weekly game night at home?  It might take all summer just to get through a game of Risk or Monopoly anyway.

Scam in Cedar Rapids

It feels good to help someone in need.  But it doesn’t feel so good to be taken advantage of when you want to help someone else.  That’s what is happening in Cedar Rapids.  Some people have reported receiving phone calls from the Cedar Rapids Police Department collection money for the Canine Unit.  But, according to the CRPD, the Canine Unit is not raising funds by making phone calls.  If someone does contact you by phone asking for funds for the Canine unit, one of the best things you can do is ask them some questions: who are you, who are you calling for, what is the money going to be used for, etc.  Never allow them to pressure you into giving right, but ask if they can send you some literature about it first.  If you think you’ve already fallen for a scam like this, make sure you report it to the authorities.

Bicycle Recall

I love getting out on my bike, but I’m pretty sure regardless of how much you enjoy biking, falling off of one is an unpleasant experience.  That’s why there’s a recall out on some bikes that use JD suspensions.  Apparently the forks on the bike can lose alignment, which would cause the bike to suddenly turn in one direction.  That probably means you’ll fall off and head straight for the concrete.  The recall includes some Trek and some Cannondale bikes made in the last year.

Flood Rememberance

As we approach thge one year anniversary of the flood, some in the North Cedar area are planning a rememberance service.  The current plan is to hold the service on June 24th from 5-8pm.  You can learn more about the plans on the Courier website here.

Spring House Work

With a lot of things decreasing in value during the economic downturn, it’s nice to hold on to something that you can increase it’s value.  One of those things is your house.  Spring provides some great opportunities to get out do some regular maintenance on your house.  Some of those projects might sound like things you’d need to hire someone to do, but a good amount of projects just need some motivation and proper instruction.  HGTV has put up a section on their site with just that goal in mind. You kind find easy ways to clean up and improve your house, without calling someone to do it for you.  Unless that person is your husband.
