Another Summer Project

With the unofficial start of summer this past weekend, I think it’s time to start on a summer project.  Sometimes, it can be difficult, and hard to motivate yourself, but once you’ve started, it can really be a lot of fun.  It’s possible that tonight, Amy and I will start on a summer project: a puzzle.  Okay, so that’s not really a house project, I’ll admit it, but it is a lot of fun.  Plus, it’s one of those puzzles with strange pieces that doesn’t show the puzzle anywhere on the box.  Which means we have to figure it out all on our own.  It won’t be easy; but I’m willing to make the sacrifice for my summer project: Project Spend More Time with the Family.  Feel free to steal my summer project idea if you want.

Stay Safe at the Pool

It’s the Memorial Day weekend and that means it’s the unofficial beginning of summer.  It’s time to get out, play in the park, have a picnic, barbeque, and of course, take the whole family to the pool.  A lot of pools open this weekend, but as we all head out to cool down by getting wet over the summer, it’s a good time remember that while the pool is fun, we have to stay safe at the same time. There are a lot of different pool safety tips, but the best one I know of is to keep an eye on your kids.  And, in my opinion, the best way to do that is to play with your kids in the pool.  Sure, you might not get as tan as if you laid out on a towel, but you also won’t have near as much fun either.

Drive Safe

When I get excited, I drive faster.  It’s not intentional.  I’ll just be excited to get home, get where I’m going, or even singing along with an awesome song, and I’ll find my foot has been getting excited and pushing the pedal down farther than it should be.  So I put that foot to work on the brake instead.  This weekend, if you’re getting excited on your way out of town, or just to get home, the police would like to remind you that they’re watching.  In fact, many police departments have put out notice that they’re planning to be out in force this weekend, helping everyone remain safe on the road with the increased traffic.  So remember, watch your speed,  buckle up, and don’t stay safe out there.

Take control of your email

While I’m not always the most organized guy in the world, there is something I’ve learned about keeping things clean: it keeps you sane.  When my desk is cluttered,  I have a harder time focusing.  The same thing with my email.  When my inbox is stuffed full and I can’t find the emails that are important, it can make my work day, or even my personal email time, difficult.  If you struggle with keeping the inbox organized, here are some tips CNET-TVNatali Del Conte Senior Editor shared recently.

1. Handle each email once – try to get out of the habit of saying “I’ll tackle that later.”  Send the response now, then file and/or delete it.

2. Create Action Folders – Sort email into folders for things that need to get done today, stuff for tomorrow, and items to follow up on next week.

3. Make Email Filters – You can use filters to eliminate spam, or have all your emails from a certain person filed to a particular folder.

4. Consider Declaring Email Bankruptcy – This is harder for work emails, but for personal email, if it’s all too overwhelming, and you just need a fresh slate, you can archive/delete most of your email, and then send out one mass email to your friends letting them know that’s what you’ve done, in case they wonder why you’re clueless when they ask about that message they sent you last month.
