What are You Watching?

You’ve been busy all day long, you get the kids from school, get home, and throw together dinner while the news tells you it’s still best to stay home and not spend money. The family finishes dinner, you clean up the dishes, and then collapse on the couch.  And what’s the easiest and cheapest option once you’ve hit the couch?  Flipping on the TV for a bit.  And you’re not alone.  Compared to last year, we’re watching more TV than ever.  In fact, right now, the average American watches 151 hours of TV a month. I did the math.  In an average 30 day month, that’s 5 hours a day.  I could take the opportunity to ask if we watch too much TV, but that might seem hypocritical when I go to a friend’s house and watch 3 hours of TV tonight.

Planning on Absolutely Nothing

Tonight, my wife has a rehearsal for special music at our church this Sunday.  That means I’m on babysitting duty.  It’s not that scary anymore.  I’ve adjusted and realized that as long as there’s a bottle nearby, I can pretty much handle anything Bekah needs (though I don’t always know what she needs).  So right now, I’m trying to avoid making any plans for things to do while Bekah and I are hanging out. The reason for this is that when I do make plans, she generally ends up screaming or fussy and won’t calm down.  Then I’m disappointed I could accomplish what I wanted to get done.  I figure if I don’t make any plans than if she’s not calm all evening, I’m not disappointed, and she falls right to sleep, I can be excited about the things I can get done.

Flood again?

It feels like we’ve gotten a lot of snow this year.  Due to last year, everyone’s wondering if we’ll have another flood this summer.  The scientific answer? Maybe…maybe not.  Due to all the different factors that determine the likelihood of a flood, experts can’t be sure.  But according to Steve Buan of the National Weather Service in a recent Gazette article, compared to the factors last year, it’s unlikely.  While it’s always good to be ready for anything, I’ll admit that I read that and had a little sigh of relief.

Need a Kidney?

Craigslist is basically a giant internet classified section.  People buy, request, sell, and trade all kinds of things on Craigslist from apartments to cars, to computers.  But there are some things I wouldn’t risk finding on Craigslist, like organs.  But that’s what one family did.  When their father was in need, some women went on Craigslist and pleaded for a kidney donor to save his life. And they found one, a woman who could donate a kidney and also had their fathers rare blood type.  It’s a neat story of somehow helping out someone else in need in a pretty cool way.  I think I’ll still stick to just looking for weedwackers and computers through.
